Amb. Dr. Bou-Said: UNA-USA submitted 11 UPR reports to the UN Human Rights Council!

UNA-USA

With our chapters and partner organizations, we submitted 11 reports for consideration in the May 2020 Universal Periodic Review. Report topics include gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, climate change, and human rights—just to name a few.

These reports, which include recommendations as to how the U.S. can improve its human rights record across multiple issue areas, are submitted to the UN Human Rights Council for review.

In May 2020, the United States will undergo a “Universal Periodic Review” (UPR) of its domestic human rights record at the UN Human Rights Council. In 2019, UNA-USA campus and community chapters hosted local Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Consultations to engage the UN on strengthening human rights in the United States.

What is a “UPR Consultation Report”?

UPR Consultations convene advocates to discuss a specific human rights issue in the United States. After the Consultation, advocates compile an official reports which includes specific observations and constructive recommendations for the U.S. federal government.

The reports below were submitted by UNA-USA chapters and partner organizations for consideration in the May 2020 Universal Periodic Review.
