The President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received on Friday morning the President of the 73rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Most Excellent Mrs. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, who is on an official visit to our country.

During the cordial meeting, they agreed to continue defending the role of the United Nations in the preservation of international peace and security , as well as in the search for collective solutions to global problems. They also exchanged about other topics on the international agenda.

Accompanied the distinguished visitor the Hon. Ms. Yanerit Morgan, deputy chief of staff to the President of the General Assembly, and the political adviser to the President, Mr. Andrés Fiallo.

On the Cuban side were Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and the General Director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rodolfo Reyes Rodríguez.

Earlier, during a meeting with the Cuban foreign minister , the Ecuadorian diplomat and writer had acknowledged: “Cuba is an essential and strategic ally to strengthen the multilateral system . “

María Fernanda Espinosa has held the presidency of the UN General Assembly since June 2018, was the fourth woman to reach that position and the first to represent Latin America. At the moment of being elected, she was the chancellor of Ecuador.
