Economic inequality and environmental degradation are among the greatest policy challenges of our time. Properly understanding global inequality trends and drivers, as well as their interactions with environmental degradation, is key to the transition towards sustainable societies.

In this seminar, Lucas Chancel presents new empirical research findings on global economic and environmental inequalities. He highlights the close link between social and environmental (in)justice, and discusses policy options that can address the unsustainability of economic inequality.

Lucas Chancel is an economist, specialized in inequality and in environmental policy. His work focuses on the measurement of economic inequality, its interactions with sustainable development and on the implementation of social and ecological policies. Lucas is Co-Director of the World Inequality Lab and of WID.world at the Paris Scool of Economics (PSE). He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) and Lecturer at Sciences Po.
