IHRC: KATUBA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION IN ZAMBIA

The Electoral Commission of Zambia met and reviewed the activities of the office of Special Envoy for Zambia of the International Human Rights Commission, (IHRC) Geneva Switzerland. Following a careful review of the operational plan and the determination by the Zambia IHRC National Committee to participate and concisely report on Electoral Commission’s stand to conduct free, fair and credible Parliamentary By-Elections schedule for 30th July 2019, the official announcement for the IHRC to observe the said elections was made Dr. Kafula Mubanga as IHRC Special Envoy in this Southern African nation.

Excited for the opportunity to help his nation to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of the elections in Zambia, Dr. Mubanga decided to get the IHRC Situation Room briefed for possible support.

Consequently, update on the status of the Zambia Electoral Commission’s synergy with the IHRC has been communicated to the key stakeholders in the IHRC including Dr. Saiful Dildar and Amb. Dr. Haissam Bou-Said, the IHRC International Secretary General and IHRC Commissioner respectively. In a press release signed by the Secretary-General of the African Region HQ of IHRC H.E Dr. Tivlumun Innocent Ahure, the Zambia Special Envoy received the go-ahead to proceed with the implementation of all the things scheduled for the election and file the reports for consideration ensuring also that democratic standards are not compromised. Dr. Ahure has assured of the support of Dr. Saiful Dildar to achieve this task.
