International Commission on Human Rights: The situation of abuses in Lebanon is worrying and the state and dissidents must be alert to the dangers

The Middle East Commissioner for Human Rights and her advisor to the UN Security Council in Geneva, Ambassador Dr. Haitham Abu Said, received a report on Thursday, October 18, 2019, from the Executive Council member and the follow-up to Lebanon’s file at the International Commission on Human Rights, Rami Fawaz. The Lebanese state is facing unarmed peaceful demonstrators and using rubber bullets and tear gases, especially after the Minister of Interior and Municipalities stated that the demonstration is a sacred right guaranteed by the Constitution and there are instructions not to be exposed to demonstrators, which translates into rioting from political parties. Letter of the Lebanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The security forces also launched a campaign of indiscriminate arrests of demonstrators, including minors and journalists, and blocked roads leading to the center of Beirut and attacked some gathering points of peaceful demonstrators by setting up barricades to prevent them from their right to peaceful demonstration.

Fawaz wished the media to convey the facts in a transparent and objective manner and to other media not to comply with the threats of the security forces and the army that downtown Beirut is a security zone and photography is forbidden, which in turn contributes to the falsification of the facts. The committee had a comprehensive report on the facts and proposals for solutions, but the government of national unity proved its failure to manage matters because there was no real opposition to holding it accountable and the resignation of the government led to turning the government into a caretaker government.

For his part, Ambassador Abu Said said in an interview with the International News Agency for Human Rights that the demonstration is a right of people to express their opinion peacefully and this is stipulated by the International Bill of Human Rights, and that what happened in the first two days was admirable and the way the expression of the people began to float some gaps The dangerous indicator of a political nature may have links and tendencies outside the interests of the people and cries of pain in the squares. It also recorded violations that did not adhere to the known behavior required by some demonstrators in terms of offensive words, in addition to the distribution of funds, statements and other things that give the impression that there are outside parties intervene in their own interests and exploit the rightful demands of the Lebanese.

The statement concluded by calling on the Lebanese government to listen to the popular demands and achieve them and withdraw the fuse of external strife that wants to bring Lebanon into the danger of civil war.It also called on those in the squares not to be drawn into a trap after political slogans that do not work and will not reach them to their goal.
