Restore U.S. Leadership on the Human Rights Council

The United States has always been a leader on the world stage in promoting and protecting fundamental human rights. However, the U.S. decision to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council one year ago is a decision that undermines our commitment to universal human dignity and makes it difficult for us to push back against violations of basic human rights.

From the horrifying anti-gay purges in Chechnya, to the distressing refugee crisis in Myanmar, to the human rights abuses in Venezuela, our world is facing devastating human rights challenges. The United Nations is working to protect our world’s most vulnerable people, and we must play a role.

The United States cannot retreat from human rights any longer. We must call on U.S. leaders to restore our country’s history of global leadership to ensure that human rights are protected for everyone, everywhere. Join me, and take a stand for human rights. Tell Congress to support U.S. leadership on the UN Human Rights Council.
