Today is the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on and hold consultations on the Middle East (Yemen).
The guests at the Noon Briefing will be Ms. Maria-Francesca Spatolisano, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs; Mr. John Wilmoth, Director, Population Division, UN DESA; and Mr. Patrick Gerland, Chief, Population Estimates and Projections Section, Population Division, UN DESA. In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
In Geneva, at 10.30 a.m. in Press Room 1, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will brief on its Annual Global Trends Report on Forced Displacement. The speaker will be Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Tuesday, 18 June
Today is Sustainable Gastronomy Day.
In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on UN Peacekeeping operations.
At 11:00 a.m. in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, there will be an informal briefing on the “United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech” co-organized by the Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect and the Executive Office of the SecretaryGeneral.
Wednesday, 19 June
In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the International Criminal Court Sudan.
In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold a debate on the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA)
In Geneva, 9:00 a.m. in Press Room 1, the Human Rights Council will brief on it 41st regular session (24 June-12 July 2019). The speaker will be Ambassador Coly Seck (Senegal), President of the Human Rights Council (13th cycle). A light breakfast will be served outside Press Room 1.
Thursday, 20 June
Today is World Refugee Day.
In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on and hold consultations on the Middle East.
In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). At 4:00 pm the 2019 United Nations Population Award ceremony will be held in the Economic and Social Council Chamber. The National Peace Hut Women of Liberia is the institutional laureate for the award this year, and Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, is the award’s individual laureate.
Friday, 21 June
Today is the International Day of Yoga.
The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
