Today is a UN official holiday (Memorial Day). UN Headquarters in New York will be closed.

The Secretary-General will arrive in Austria for a long-scheduled visit to attend events to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Vienna International Centre, the home of a number of United Nations organizations.

In Geneva, at 10:30 a.m. in Press Room 1, the World Health Organization (WHO) will give an update on the World Health Assembly. The speaker will be Fadéla Chaib, WHO Communications officer and spokesperson.

Tuesday, 28 May

In Vienna, the Secretary-General will attend the annual meeting of the R20, an organization that brings together leaders from the world of politics, business and the private sectors focused on fighting climate change.

In New York, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria) in the morning.

At 12:30 p.m., in the Press Briefing Room, the guest at the Noon Briefing will be Luis Alfonso de Alba, the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the 2019 Climate Summit.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on Burundi.

In Geneva, the AI for Good Global Summit, will start today.

At 7:30 p.m. at the Cinerama Empire, Ciné ONU, in partnership with UNIDIR, presents two short movies, The overview effect and A beautiful planet on the occasion of the 2019 Space Security Conference. The screening will be followed by a discussion on international space cooperation for global solutions, with Jean-François Clervoy, former French astronaut, Renata Dwan, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, and Niklas Hedman, Chief of Legal Affairs, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

Wednesday, 29 May

In Aachen, Germany, the Secretary-General will receive the International Charlemagne Prize, an honor which has been awarded annually since 1950 for efforts made in the service of European unification.

In New York, the Security Council will hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria) in the morning.

In Geneva, at 10 a.m. in Room XII there will be an interactive workshop with some 100 high-school students to explain the concept of peacekeeping and raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals, organized by members of UN Information Service (2 hours).

At 3 p.m. in the Ariana Park/Peacekeeper Memorial there will be an official ceremony: flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony with the representatives of the United Nations, Permanent Missions, and the International Association of Peacekeepers, observance of a minute of silence, and musical performance by UN Choir – in memory of the Peacekeepers who have lost their lives for the cause of peace.

Thursday, 30 May

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt resolutions on the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and South Sudan sanctions. It will also hold consultations on the 1718 Committee.

In Incheon, Republic of Korea, at 9:00 a.m. there will be a Meeting of the Communities of Ocean Action (COAs), organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
