Dear Amb. Dr. Haissam,

On this International Women`s Day,  I can’t help but think of the progress that we have made on advancing women’s rightsy, in our country and around the world.

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, a captivating moment in our nation’s history that granted women the right to vote. This year, the UN also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most visionary agenda for advancing women’s rights and empowerment everywhere.

Despite these moments of progress, I can’t help but also think of the challenges that are ahead. Whether it’s the lack of reproductive rights around the world, the difficulty accessing a quality education, or something as important as the right to vote, women’s rights continue to be under threat.

We have to stand together  and urge our elected officials to recognize women’s rights as human rights. More importantly, we have to push those who represent us in Congress to make policy decisions that empower women and girls in our country and around the world.

Sincerely,

Rachel Bowen Pittman,

Executive Director, UNA-USA
