USA Sen. JOSH HAWLY informed in a letter Amb. Dr. HAISSAM BOU-SAID (IHRC/ME Commissioner and Advisor to the UNOG Affairs) on his gratefulness for the time and effort took by Amb. Bou-Said to work on his perspective with him on issues important to IHRC and the International community.
He also added that it is a privilege to both serve as a US Senator and be carry the voice of the International Community in Congress. Confirming receiving Amb. Bou-Said message and he will do his best to respond in a timely manner.
Sen Hawley expressed greatly appreciations hearing the thoughts, which help him to set priorities in Congress to better serve people back home as he continues to fight for issues important to the States.
The letter expressed that for over seven decades, the UN has remained a critical forum to which the U.S. has repeatedly turned to advance its interests, promote its values, and spread the financial, military, and technical burdens of confronting transnational challenges.
He also wrote that at a time when our world is facing unprecedented challenges, we can’t do this alone. Today, the U.S. owes $875 million to the UN Regular Budget and over $2 billion to the UN Peacekeeping Budget. Failing to pay our dues not only tarnishes our country’s credibility but hinders the UN’s ability to carry out its work effectively and push through U.S.-backed reforms.
Moreover, it also goes against the will of more than 70 percent of Americans – Republicans and Democrats – who agree that we should pay our dues to the UN and UN Peacekeeping on time and in full.
